I Can't Save Everyone

This blog is a space for me to extend my knowledge, thoughts, opinions, and views with my awesome audience- YOU! I love sharing my life for the few of you that may find it educational, entertaining, or hell even sad- but at least I am offering my skill set to the world.

For years I have always been asked about diets, exercises, foods, supplements- the entire span of the diet and fitness world and I have always tried to offer an unbiased and fundamentally ethic answer or solution to whomever is inquiring. As I have gained knowledge, my thoughts and opinions have changed- some slightly, others quite drastically. Over the past year or so now, questioning has been more and more nutrition based and I feel confident in most of my answers and if not, I offer to find it on the foundation of scientifically supported information. Things you read on Facebook, the internet, even on blogs that don't use scientifically based knowledge could be slightly skewed to completely false. I truly strive to offer my unbiased opinion when it comes to food availability, mental health, disease, fitness, and everything in between.

Last week I had to have a sit down with myself and emphasize how important it is for me to understand that not only do people choose to believe what they want to believe, but I will not be able to change everyone's mind that doesn't share my same level of knowledge, nor is it my job to do so. Most of the time when I crush someone's view on a new elimination diet, latest nutrition fad, or diet culture scheme i.e. (Beachbody, It Works, Nutrisystem, Advocare, etc.), my message more often than not is not well received. People want to believe the reason they failed their "diet" or "program" is because of their lack of commitment or willpower. They will gladly blame themselves, instead of taking a step back and looking at the BIG PICTURE of, how they set themselves up for absolute failure from the get-go due to unsustainable lifestyle habits.

Let that soak in for a minute... Yea I know, I used to do it too.

I have to remind myself that my values and what I choose to not "buy in to" isn't shared by all and I need to practice with simply just not going there. It's pretty likely that we will not change each other's mind and that is allowed, we are humans and don't have to agree.

It's a hard balancing act because I want to educate and share my knowledge to people that get fed lies non-stop through advertising, and it's honestly hard because I care so much. I want to save everyone. I know this isn't helpful to everyone, but I don't offer my opinion anymore unless someone personally asks because sometimes in life, ignorance is bliss and even if I do share, if someone isn't ready to receive it, it won't ever make a difference.

My message is never to offend, but always to offer my very best. I hope you all come to not only see that, but also expect it. Thank you all for reading!
